Bows are used to achieve the target in the archery. These bows are made of materials like fiberglass, carbon and they have a sight and stabilizers. The stabilizers are connected to the bow to help keep it stable while shooting. Generally, bows are used in the field archery. Arrows hold a pointed metal tilt at the front and a furrow at the back, which makes hole over the bowstring. The targets or butts are made of straw wires that are connected together. Canvas targets or the colored papers are joined to the targets.

To meet the archery target, a competitor has to shoot at the goal from diverse distances. There are two types of archery targets Out Door archery and In Door archery. The diameters of the standard faces in the out door archery are approximately 122 cm and 80 cm. the 122 cm face is collected of a loop in the center of 24.4 cm diameter, which is circled by four concentric bands.

The 80 cm face is composed of a round in the center of 16 cm diameter and it is also circled by four concentric bands. The width of each circle is around eight cm. Both the target faces are colored from the middle outwards in gold, red, blue, black and white.

The center of the gold is known as the pinhole, it should be marked with a tiny cross, and its lines should not surpass 2 mm in width.

The archery targets should be set up at one end of the ground. These targets should be appropriate at an angle of around 15 degrees and there should be pinholes 130 cm + 5 cm above the land. The altitude of the pinhole on a line of faces should be straight while looking at any time. All the archery targets should be visibly numbered and the shooting line should be exact, because over this line the archers will take up the shooting position.

The shooting marks including discs and flat markers should be placed opposite the targets at the proper distances. These shooting marks are used to consider the number of the target. A waiting line should be painted five yards behind the shooting line.

The area on the ground where the people have right to enter should be roped off to point out that people are not allowed to pass the border. This will help the shooter to achieve his archery target and he will not get disturbed.

For many, we remember Benjamin Franklin as a great scientist and inventor. And to be sure he qualified in that realm as well. Every school boy or girl has that image of him flying that kite to capture electricity to test his theories that is so popular in our mythology of his accomplishments. But these images are no myth for Franklin was truly a great inventor contributing to the world such important innovations as the lightning rod, swim fins, the catheter, the harmonica and bifocals. In that way, Benjamin Franklin had as much in common with Michelangelo as he did with Thomas Jefferson and indeed he was in good company if listed with either.

But it was a political theorist and a philosopher that Franklin made huge contributions to the development of the American experiment in its early formations. It was he who was able to envision the concept of a new American nation. But his talents did not end at his ability to use his powerful mind to envision the future so well. He was also a talented communicator, writer and teacher so he was able to use his eloquence and magnetic personality to promote the idea of an American nation both within the colonies and internationally.

Benjamin Franklin was truly a citizen of the world as he was as comfortable in the courtyards of France as he was in the pubs of Boston. In fact, he was so popular on both sides of the Atlantic that he served as America’s first ambassador to France and therein lies one of his greatest contributions to the independence of the new country. He was able to use his vast popularity and his trained powers of persuasion to cause the French to enter the battle on the side of the colonies against the British which was a major contributor to the success of the revolution to free America from English control and launch the independent American nation.

But just as much as his written work, his influence as a thinker, an intellectual and an international diplomat set the standard for others to follow after him and truly established America as a member of the international community of nations.

There really was an explorer named Columbus who carried out three bold journeys across the ocean and during those journeys, he did indeed discover “the new world.” His ships really were named the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria and he did indeed embark one of those three voyages in 1492.

The legacy of Columbus then is more than just the facts of his exploratory journeys and their outcome. There is reason to believe that Columbus’s fabled “discovery of America” did not occur on North American soil but somewhat further south of here, somewhere in the Bahamas. But the legacy of Columbus lies in his spirit and the challenge he took on that is part of the American spirit and one we identify with so strongly.

Part of the legend was that Columbus embarked on this trip for the new world despite the prevailing “scientific” belief that the world was flat. Now research in recent times have surfaced sufficient documentation to show that sailors of that time never did believe that teaching. Their extensive knowledge of navigation and astronomy, which is crucial for any successful sea voyage, was sufficient for sailors to know that the earth was round and that they would never “fall off the edge.” However, the image of those brave men launching out to sea, against the advice of popular opinion, to find something new and exciting so connects with the American spirit of discovery and adventure that this myth persists as part of the legacy of Columbus.

Americans do have a tremendous sense of discovery and adventure and a deeply seated need to conquer new lands, to reach out beyond their own grasp and to do the impossible. This was the spirit of Manifest Destiny which gripped the nation long before there was any reason to believe that this meager band of colonists had the resources to settle a great nation. Americans always have had such a firm belief in themselves and a core faith that they could do the impossible. That part of the American spirit is what connects to Columbus’s setting out on these bold missions facing certain dangers so he too could discover new lands and have great adventures.

And while there are downsides to the widespread use of automobiles, it has been a huge leap forward for America and civilization as a whole. Wood Fired Pottery

Throughout history, clay has had many uses. Initially it was used as a method for creating figurines and idols. Later, it became so much more and many of those earlier uses for clay still remain today. One of which is as the tool from which pottery is created. This allowed citizens of the world, centuries ago to store precious liquids, food, and other items and proves useful for many reasons, as well as decorative, all these centuries later.

While it is widely believed that the firing of pottery is something that was learned very much by accident, it is also widely understood that the idea of firing pottery spread like wildfire, if you’ll pardon the pun. In the beginning the firing of pottery was intended only to strengthen the pottery rather than as a decorative enhancement, though the strengthening was minimal and the ability to enhance pottery creative and artistically was greatly improved.

As time moved on, as it inevitably does, various tribes and cultures made their own unique marks upon the pottery of their people. Most recovered pottery throughout history is easily recognizable according to tribe or people, not only because of the location in which it was discovered but also as the result of the artistic markings that were made upon the pottery and, in many cases, the method of firing the pottery that was used in the process of its creation.

Early pottery wasn’t glazed because of the high, sustained temperature that is required in order to glaze pieces. It simply wasn’t possible to regulate these temperatures in early societies. It was several centuries before kilns were created that would allow pottery makers to control the temperatures of the fire and reach the desired temperature to improve options for glazing these precious pieces of pottery.

Quite a while later we began using natural gasses to control and regulate the temperature for firing pottery. The problem with this is that in a world that is increasingly dependent on natural gasses and a limited supply there are many who feel this is an irresponsible method for heating kilns. Add to that the notions of global warming and worries over pollution, many are turning back to the trees for heat sources. The good news is that trees are a renewable source of energy to fuel the fires of the kilns and they burn clean. Of course this isn’t the one-size fits all solutions and it isn’t the answer that everyone has. There are still those who use natural gas or electricity to fire pottery. Wood is simply the choice that many artisans and craftsmen (and women of course) are making in order to do their part to save the planet.

That being said, wood firing is a very time consuming process for firing pottery and involves no small amount of labor. For this reason, expect to pay considerably more for pottery pieces you purchase that are wood fired. If you are planning to make your own pottery you should definitely understand that wood firing is a very labor intensive process that requires constant monitoring of the fire and in many cases constant feeding of the fire in order to maintain the constant temperatures necessary to fire the pottery properly. The results are beautiful pieces that have a low impact to Mother Earth in the long or short terms of things.
